Well today I am just plain ol’ Sick! I mean when you think about it, this really does not happen too often. So when it does it is a big deal and Adriana loves to take care of me which I very much so appreciate. Things are great here in Tucson land. Awaiting the next thing whatever that is going to be! Just thought I would write something since I have not written anything in a while.

Week 3 Highlights
Again, it's Monday of week 4 and we're just now posting week 3. A whole week ago seems like a month ago.
Last weekend we had a conference at our church that got us ready for the new year. All of us but Matthew went. Matthew was up in Prescott, enjoying the company of Grandma and Grandpa Till. They still had snow from New Years, so he had fun building snowmen and having snowball fights.
We also spent some special time with Bethany and Niko. Bethany and I had some girl time shopping at the mall while Niko and Mike went to see Alpha and Omega, the Disney dog movie that was in theaters. It's always nice to have that one on one with the kids every so often.
By Monday, Matthew was back in Tucson and we were gearing up for the week.
This was Bethany's first week going to honor band at the high school. She did fabulous and had a lot of fun.
The boys got their Pinewood derby cars this week and are getting ready to create this years fastest and baddest designs.
Niko also got his braces put on this week. Slowly but surely his teeth are coming together.
Matthew did his mid-year DIBELS reading test which is a good tracking tool to see where they're at and how much progress they're making. He's plugging along, but still behind. Niko was very similar in first grade and then something just clicked sometime in 3rd grade and he couldn't put books down. Maybe it will happen sooner for matthew, but it's good that we have an indication of what kind of progress he's making even if it's small.
Just this past weekend was the last weekend U of A was performing the play Wicked. Bethany and I really wanted to see it before it left. We had a long wait at the chiropractor so we walked down to see if any seats were left for the evening show. It was sold out. So we ventured down later that evening and tried to do the lottery right before the show. They set aside 20 tickets in the orchestra section and do a drawing. We didn't get the tickets, but it sure was fun trying-the hoping and anticipation-fun stuff. So we went to Ross and tried on interesting clothes that we didn't need like evening gowns and 'skinny jeans' (HAHA) instead. That was fun too.
We all headed up to Mike's dad's on Sunday to spend the afternoon with them. We took a walk around a nearby park and played cards. It was a nice afternoon for 6 out of the 7 of us. But sad to say, Bethany got a nasty cold bug that's going around so she's been in bed fighting this thing. So this week she'll be on the mend and hopefully everyone else will ward off whatever she's got.
Oh, and oh my goodness, i almost forgot- I started my classes this week at the college. Mike's will start in a couple weeks. Just one more thing on the plate.

Week 2
Another week...that went fast.
Mike began his Paleo diet challenge on Monday. It has been fun this week trying new recipes for him and experimenting with different ingredients. We will be cataloging some of our recipes on our 'Mix It Up' blog. Been a while since we've posted over there, but since we're trying so many new things, we've got to keep track of what's good and what's not.
Matthew finished out his semester on Tuesday. He too finished up strong. He does very well with math concepts and still struggles a bit more with handwriting and reading, but is very good when it comes to writing. He loves to write stories in his journal and even more so love illustrating them.
Even though our tree is still up, slowly but surely this was a week for getting things in order in our little home...Mike has begun working at home and set up his office in our bedroom. It has been an adjustment in routine, but it is a welcome one.
The kids were back at their Wednesday night activities this week. The boys are hard at work on their badges. Pinewood Derby cars get started this next week. Bethany got all the info for their weekend retreat coming up in February. Exciting time of year for them.
On Thursday Mike headed to Mexico with a friend for a quick day trip project. They went in to Nogales, so not very far. They accomplished what needed to be done and had a good time.
Bethany's Spelling Bee was on Thursday as well. She has been studying and was ready for it. But alas, her nerves got the best of her and she ended up misspelling her first word. It was disappointing for her, but a good experience in the end.
Today, I ran Matthew up to Phoenix to meet my mom. He will be spending the long weekend with Grandma and Grandpa in Prescott.
While I was up there, I turned in my uniform for the Mesa Fire Connector Program :( It was such a hard and sad thing to do. Kind of been hanging onto it, hoping that it would work out to continue volunteering. Sometime you just got to let go though. I learned so much about a lot of things in the time I spent volunteering there. Met great people, both in the community and in the department, and had great opportunities. I will so miss being a part of the Mesa Fire family.
And with that, we are beginning a weekend that I'm sure will be fabulous!

Fun Day in the Snow!!
Last Sunday, we got in the car and drove up The Mountain...
and found us some snow...

Kids played on this patch of hill (about 30 feet by 20 feet-being generous) until Mike and I froze our noses off-in other words, a long while...

Saturday was quite a interesting day here in Tucson-as the world knows.
Before we were informed of the news of the mornings events, and actually, while they were occurring, the kids and I were participating in many fun events just down the street from all the ruckus.
We were at a Build and Grow workshop at Lowes. We ran into some boys from Royal Rangers and the kids had fun building their Game Boxes.

Finishing up...From Lowes we headed to Michael's where we did the Saturday craft there. This week they were making cheering flags to use for our pinewood derby coming up next month. WE are Outpost 55, so we made our flags/banners to reflect that. Bethany made a flag for her class at school...
It was a busy Saturday. From Michaels we got filled in on all the chaos happening down the street. Crazy stuff that still has caused even more chaos and division in our community, state, and nation than what instigated it. It's a political statement, obviously, and the public reaction to it as a whole has only created more frustration and division and fuel for something like this to happen again. ALL sides are equally fueling the fire and people just need to stop talking so dang much...Just let it be. A sick man acted inappropriately, people died, it was horrible. This has been happening since Cain and Able people...

Kids did great on their projects. Mike is officially signed up for his Paleo Challenge. We chilled the rest of Saturday and had a great day.
