Matthew and I were driving in the car tonight and this is what happened...
So, I'm station surfing the radio and pause at the talk radio station. And of course they're talking about the president in some way or another. And this is the conversation that ensues...
Matthew: I hate 'Wok-Obama'
Me: Oh really? You really shouldn't really hate him.
Matthew: But he's not a good man.
Me: He doesn't always make the best decisions or have the best ideas, but God still loves him.
Matthew: Why does He love him?
Me: God loves all human beings.
Matthew: What's a human being?
Me: You're a human being, I'm a human being, the guy in the car next to us is a human being. All people are human beings and God loves all people.
Matthew: 'Wok-Obama' is a alien.
So that was how he was able to wrap his 6 year old mind around the concept and put it all together in a way that would make sense to him. Ahh, the reasoning of a child.

Just a quick note that Mike made it home in one piece. We've been trying to settle back into a routine.
Our marriage class begins tonight. We will be co-leading it with another couple. Looking forward to that.
I'm switching my EMT class to the Tuesday/Thursday morning class because the schedule should work better for the fam. By the way, the class is going well, with the exception that i have to get a quiz done today and a test tomorrow. Always got to be in the book with this class. It's so fun though.
Mike has 3 interviews coming up-all Fire interviews. Boeing is interested in hiring him and he meets with them this Friday. The volunteer work that he does with the Phoenix Fire department has some paid positions open doing the same thing and he's being considered for one of those positions. And then he's also being considered for a full-time position with the Page Fire Department up north. And I know that he will have other opportunities coming through the door soon too. Lot's coming up and many decisions to make.
The kids are doing well in school. They are all glad to have their dad back home. Our family just isn't right when he is gone. It's like tying to hobble around on one leg. It can be done, but it's tiering and uncomfortable and disabling.
We all went to the D-backs game on Friday. it was a great game. We watched the fireworks at the end and watched a bit of the Mercy Me concert afterwards.
Today Mike is on shift with MFD until this afternoon. I'm trying to get things sorted out round here. Hopefully getting rid of a ton of stuff...And then we have our class tonight.
Busy, busy and just trying to get back to 'normal'. Unfortunately we haven't been able to pick up right where we left off. It hasn't been as easy as that. There's been a lot of interference between the time Mike left for Peru and when he got home. So, looking forward to when we can settle back into who we are.

I don't even rememebr where we left off...
Mike is coming in tonight. You know, he has only been gone a week, but it's really shown me what a whimp I am...seriously. I mean, we made it through, we came out on the other side holding it all together, productive, 'successful'; but really, I missed him sooo much it hurt. I felt incomplete without him around, like a part of me was missing. I know that sounds so cliche, but it is so true...Anyhow, he's coming home tonight and the world will be right again.
We'll post some of the many pictures he has and provide a link to the, what I hear is, thousands of photos they took...

Man, last night was a rough night. Didn't get to sleep until about 3 am, then up at 7 for church.
Today Mike flew from Lima to Cusco. He ended up getting altitude sickness really bad, got hypoxia and couldn't move his joints. Ended up breathing in a bag, teammate prayed for him and he felt better quickly. I skyped him as he was at the diner with the team eating dinner. Hopefully he'll get a good rest tonight so he can enjoy Machu Pichu tomorrow.
This afternoon we went to the library, took our time running some errands, then came home and Bethany made us a fabulous dinner; baked chicken, mashed potatoes, green beans, and cookies for dessert. She did a great job!
Now the kids are in bed and we'll see if I can sleep any better tonight.

Today felt like a typical dessert day. There was a dry wind blowing the warm air across sunny skies with clouds mounded up on the east horizon. The clouds are 'all talk, no show'; they just kind of hang out in the east all day, building up, threatening, but they never move in-or at least they haven't the past week or so. At night, they threaten even more with their flashes of light and roaring, but they're just a bull dog with no teeth...
Bethany spent the afternoon at the park, playing with her friends. We did the toy rotation today for Matthew. We put the majority of his toys up, in totes. He get's one or two totes down for a period of time and that's it. Then every so often, we put those totes up and take down one or two others. It's like Christmas every time we rotate. So today, his army men went up and his hot wheels came down. He played for hours in his room with his 'new' toys.
This evening we went to see The Night at the Museum 2 at the cheap theater. We really liked it! I liked it better than the first, i think. Fun movie!
Haven't heard a whole lot from Mike, although he is updating the blog pretty well. So if you're interested check it out. I posted the link a few posts back.

Well, this weeks been coming along.
Mike got off safely to Peru on Wednesday morning. He called at about midnight to tell me they had all made it to Lima. I talked to him briefly yesterday and, other than a forwarded email from the library from him, I haven't heard from him today. I'm sure he is having an abundance of awesome experiences.
Back here in AZ, we've been holding our own :)...HA, it's only been 3 days and i state that like it's some great feat. A friend of ours has been weeks upon weeks with her husband across the country working. I'd say THAT is the great feat of 'holding your own'!! But all in all, I do miss having Mike around. The kids do to. The days are different when he's not here. We do school at 7 at night, we eat pancakes for dinner, I don't make the bed *gasp*...We need him around here to establish some order in our lives :)
Yesterday I went in and took my first big test for class. Scored a 88/100. Not to shabby. Could have done better though
My mom came to get Niko this morning for the weekend. They were headed up to Flagstaff today. Sounded like it was going to be a good day. Bethany and i went to get the oil changed-oh what fun!...
This evening we went to a 9-11 memorial service at Calvary community in Phoenix. It was organized by the Phoenix Chapter of Fire Fighter's for Christ. Before the service the kids got to play around on the apparatus they had displayed out there. The majority of the guys manning everything we knew or knew Mike, so it was a ton of fun seeing everyone.
After the fun though, the service was underway with the fire fighters all in their Class A's, the Honorary guard and Pipes and Drums opening and closing the service. We had a guest speaker who is a NYC Fire Fighter. He lost ten guys from his house 8 years ago and 50 people that he knew well and close. He shared his stories and recollection of that day and the aftermath. Hearing him speak made the whole thing more real than ever. That day, he had to tell the wives of his brothers that their husbands weren't coming home...People would like to forget and 'move on' or even allow time to numb the sting of that day. But when you hear people like this gentleman speak and share, how could you forget? why should we? The suicide numbers in the NYFD, even still, are astronomical as a direct result of 9-11, so tragic. Incredible night of remembrance.

The Peru countdown-33 Hours and counting
The countdown is really coming to a close here. 33 and a half hours until Mike's trip to Peru begins at Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport!!The bag is packed. Everything is coming together...Now he gets to just enjoy the ride from here on out....
Easier said than done though. He's getting the butterflies. Very excited, yet kind of nervous and anxious about the unknown and what lies ahead of him.
He will be taking a ton of photos and has the ability to upload some of those photos along the way to a website. he will be sending an email out sometime tonight or tomorrow and I'll for sure post here the link to the blog they'll be updating.
Fun, fun. More adventures from the Clesceri's.
Celebrating Labor Day with Pizza
We hope that all of you had a great day off resting from all your 'labors'...It was an early start or our house, at least me. I went into the station this morning for a Connector shift, checked off all the trucks, did the station duties and then was released to go home because my partner had a family emergency and didn't make it in. Not arguing with that order for sure. I took advantage of the quiet office and stayed at the station for a while and studied and took a quiz for school. Mike and the kids slept in at home and had a lazy morning.
By the time I got home in the late morning, Mike and I were rearing and ready to pack his bag for Peru. For the next couple hours, we packed, stuffed, rearranged, dumped out the bag, packed again, more rearranging, reevaluating...The kids were running wild around the house for a while while we tried to figure out how to maximize our space...Mike left to have a drink with his dad (It was really THAT bad...it was only a soda though) And when he got home, it was done and figured out.
We celebrated by going to Thrifty's for an ice cream cone-yum.
Our day was topped off by making pizzas for dinner. Thanks to Trader Joe's ready made crust and left over sauce i had made earlier this week, it was a cinch. Went off with a bang, aside from the moment the kids noticed the chunks of zucchini in my sauce (note to self-puree the green stuff next time) Pizza and a Fanta-what more could a kid ask for?
