The Countdown Begins

The kids start school a week from today! They are so excited. So this week we have to cram in everything that we haven't done yet this summer. It's kind of bittersweet, probably more so for me than anyone else. They are excited about meeting new friends and new teachers and all. And of coarse, they are excited about all the fun they are going to have this week too.
It's been stormy still this week too. Yesterday, we had quite a bit of rain. The kids were out playing in it. Being that it was still 100 degrees out, i wasn't to concerned about them getting sick or anything. They had fun. Missed that opportunity to take a photo of them playing in their swimsuits in the rain. Oh, well, can't get them all...
Tonight is Karate and Cheer and, if it's not raining yet, Mateo will be riding his bike around the neighborhood while we wait for them.

Tonight is Karate and Cheer and, if it's not raining yet, Mateo will be riding his bike around the neighborhood while we wait for them.
Popo's 90th Birthday
We got back from California safely and with some great memories. We left Saturday morning to celebrate Popo's (Mike's grandfather's) 90th birthday. It was a great celebration. So many cousins, uncles, aunts...It was great to see everyone again. It was a beautiful day, too. We think Popo seemed to have a great time and was given a lot of great memories surrounded by his friends and family celebrating with him.
Uncle Joe was given a rooster for father's day this year. Well, a neighbor complained about the clucking and so Leslie and Erik had to take it to their house, where they are officially allowed to have him there. So Saturday evening, after the party, Joe, Erik, Leslie and Mike ran around the yard, through the bushes, up on the hill, trying to catch this rooster. It was funny. It is a beautiful bird and it's clucking really wasn't horrible. It was really cool, as a matter of fact. Anyhow, they were sad to see him go. He was really like a pet and kept them company. Anyhow, now Mike wants to get one-go figure :)
Sunday, we spent visiting and getting a ride in Uncle Joe's new Corvette. What an awesome toy, oh I mean car, that is! Fun, fun...But then we headed home. It was a quick trip but very low key and fun and I really think that Popo enjoyed his celebration.

Obviously, I haven't had time to update the past few days. This week has been crazy. Mike working and me working a lot of extra hours as well...And getting ready to go to CA this weekend. It's Great Popo's (Mike's Dad's Dad) 90th birthday. So, we're headed out Saturday morning and coming back Sunday afternoon. It should be a nice trip. Quick, and a lot of time in the car, but nice nonetheless.
The kids got their teacher assignments in the mail yesterday. School starts Tuesday the 7th and Meet the Teacher Night is on Monday the 6th. Only one more full week of summer. Kind of went by too fast. But the kids are excited to be starting. Next week we'll be busy getting school supplies and new sneakers! Making one more trip to the zoo and maybe a bowling day.
The kids have two more Tuesday night classes with Cheer and Karate until the next session. They have really had a good time with those and have learned a lot. And they are excited about continuing on after school starts.
Our homechurch group recently split in two because it was getting too big. So last night was the first time our new group met. It was great and we're excited about what God is going to do with it, even though we may not know yet what that is completely.
This week the temps have been a bit lower as well because of the daily monsoons we've been getting. I love July and the storms it brings. They can be so spectacular!
Anyhow, we're off for now, Got to go do a million things to get ready for tomorrow and still find the time to finish 8 hours of work.

The Big Kids
While yes Matthew's Birthday was a blast, I can not just be a stick in the mud and do nothing? Um...well yes the famous ol' jump high in the air and crash in a kiddie pool not made for large men to take a wild plunge in. It was fun anyways. Below are a couple of mobile phone videos of this:

Obviously, today was all about the big day for our little one. He was up at 5 am, "It's my buday today?"...
After church, we did all the finishing touches. I started decorating, while Mike picked up the cake. We ordered a plain white frosted cake and I drew a Transformer face onto it and embellished it. See photos...People started coming about 2:00. The kids immediately began swimming and slip-sliding away. We had a water balloon fight that lasted about 5 minutes. And then we did our water pinatas. We filled trash bags up with water and toys and let them hit it until it busted water everywhere. Thanks to FamilyFun.com for that idea...After cake and ice cream and presents, the party wrapped up about 4:00. It seemed like everyone had a good time, and I know Matthew had a blast and survived without any meltdowns (until he had to go to bed and wasn't allowed to sleep with ALL of his cool new things)

We spent all day today getting ready for tomorrow-shopping, cleaning, ordering things, filling up water balloons...Mike took the two older ones shopping for Matthew. And Matthew and I got other things together.
This evening, we went out and celebrated as a family. We went to Denny's and had a grand time. Click here for photos.

What a day it was, again...
It was sleep-in day again. Even the boys slept until 7:30, wowsers...We ran some errands in the morning then Mike went to work.
Job update-
I had the interview with the elementary school this afternoon. Should know either way about that by this coming Wednesday. I got a phone call from Apache Junction Fire and they said unfortunately, I was #2. I bet it was the typing test that was the deciding factor. That was encouraging and disappointing at the same time. Encouraging that I did so well and disappointing that I didn't do well enough...Also got a letter with my test date for 911 operator/Police Tele communicator in the mail. It is at 1:30 on August 2nd. That's with the town of Gilbert...So, i have all this job search stuff going on and then my current boss comes by to drop some work to me. She hands me a memo that states that I was nominated and picked to receive this Star Spot award for going above and beyond and being a good employee. They give them away every so often, i guess. I got a $50 Am-Ex gift card. My boss said that she is excited that our department has finally been recognized in this award program. From what she said, it sounded like that department recognition was a big thing. Anyhow, it reminds me how much I love the job I am doing now and the people that I work with are awesome too...
So, the rest of the day...We started getting things ready for Matthew's party on Sunday. He is so excited. He keeps saying that he is going to give all his friends his presents. We have some in the front room that have come in the mail and he is telling us who gets which one, "This one is for Isaac, this one is for Niko..." It is too funny. We keep telling him that they are his, but he insists on giving them away. I think that will change by Sunday...
So that's about it for today. A lot of running around. No pictures today. But we'll make up for it on Sunday, I'm sure. And there is a huge monsoon tonight. Lighting and rain and the works. 'Tis the season.

Well, we all slept in again this morning, except for the boys, of course...They're always up with the sun.
Had another interview this morning with Apache Junction Fire District for a receptionist position. It was actually a skills test and HR interview today. I already took a written test and had an oral board interview. It seems like it would be another great job, working with great people. I am one of four candidates that they are looking at. Actually out of the three she had interviewed, it was between me and one other person. I completely screwed up on my typing test though. I clicked the 'okay' button to begin and it prompted the one minute test to begin. I sat there for the majority of my time reading the, what i thought was, the instructions, "This is a typing test. You are given 1 minute to complete this test. Most will complete it with ample time remaining..." And so forth...I sat there waiting for the test to begin, then it clicked in my little brain that this was the test. So by that time, the clock had 8 seconds left on it and I was able to type the first sentence...So, that score was an absolute flop. What a dork...The supervisor lady is calling today or tomorrow. No call today, so we'll see about tomorrow...On that note though, I got a call today from the school asking me to interview at one of the elementary schools for a full time position. So, another interview tomorrow at 12:30. What a week for interviews, ey? And I got two more post cards in the mail from the town of Gilbert saying that I met the requirements to move on in the process for 911 Operator and another one for Police Telecommunicator. That can be a while to hear about those though...Tons going on all of a sudden with all this...
Mike and I are also looking into getting our CPR Instructor Certificates and starting a little side business, training people to be CPR certified. We are excited about this endeavor and that we can do it in conjunction with the career goals we already have and are working towards.
We went to a seminar tonight about raising healthy kids and the advantages of certain supplements, organic foods, and chiropractic care. It was very informative.
Now, I'm just waiting for Mike to get home from work. He got a late call and will probably be off about an hour and a half past his scheduled time-bummer...
Pretty much it for today.
Except that I failed to mention that I have the most committed, hard-working, fun, and sexy husband around. He's awesome!...Just thought that everyone needed to know that!

Yep, check that out...Today's LOW is 91!! Nice-ey?
So, we've had a great day today. This morning I went in for an interview with the Town of Gilbert. The opening wont be for a couple months, but we'll see what becomes of it. It would be a great job to get started in. We'll keep you posted on that...Glad the interview is over, though.
Then the all the guys got much needed haircuts today.
Then this afternoon, we headed over to the zoo. I should've done my research first though. We got there at 1:45 and the zoo closed at 2:00. We were able to get in the gates though and then they let us play for as long as we wanted, just no concessions, which we don't use anyhow. So we stayed for a while and played in the water and had a ton of fun. We headed home before the traffic.

Today Mike took CPAT for Phoenix. He passed with a lot of time to spare. Way to go, Mike! He breezed through it without any problems or difficulty at all. It is awesome to see his physical progress over the past few years. So now that he has passed this portion, we will be waiting for the letter that will give him his score from the written test he took in May. From there, we can determine which round of interviews he will be invited to this year-1st, 2nd, or 3rd. And then we wait some more for his 1st interview date and time. The excitement is building again...
We celebrated his accomplishment by heading to the gym and doing a power workout-haha. It was fun and felt great. We jumped in the pool with the kids afterward for a bit, until we got chased out of the pool by a significant monsoon with a ton of dust, lightening, rain and high wind...It was awesome!

So what does one do besides water play during the heat of summer? Go to the movies, of course!
Yep, today was the much anticipated outing to see Transformers. So after church, we headed to the theater and were captivated for 2.5 hours...
It was awesome! The kids absolutely loved it and it was non-stop action...Very well done and spectacular special effects. This was Matthew's last free show, as he will be 4 next week and have to start paying the $5.50 (sniff-sniff)...

Float At The Movies
I didn't post for Thursday. The highlight of that day was Home group. That's about it. Oh, and figuring out what bills we're going to pay on Friday. That's always fun too.
So yesterday was a busy day. It was shopping day, and that is definitely an adventure around here...But I do love getting great deals, like grapes for 39 cents a pound-oh yeah...And free ground beef becasue they rang it up wrong- Woo-hoo...
Last night was the highlight of our week. The YMCA is having a family float at the movies night for the next three weeks. They show a movie while the kids float in the pool in their float tubes. (Which by the way, that trip to the dollar store earlier to pick out the floats was just as anticipated as the movie)...They served pizza and popcorn and turned out all the lights but the ones in the pool itself. It was a lot of fun. The movie last night was Night at The Museum. The kids had a blast...The movie started at 8 so it could be dark. So, boy, was that a late night after a long day.

Got some weeding done in the front yard after we worked out and Mike went to work....Kids have just been busy playing, the boys with their Lego's mostly today and Bethany got started punching out all her paper dolls and playing with those...All in all, a pretty quiet and peaceful day. The Start of a New Week...

Today was library day. After returning our books from last week, the kids cashed in on their last prize of the summer for their book club summer reading program. The prize was a new book-fun, fun...We checked out a total of 28 new books for this week to read and look at. Niko was all about bugs this week and found a Choose Your Own Adventure, Matthew just grabbed what he saw, and Bethany chose some Magic Tree House books and a few others.
Mike and I got another great work out today. He did the stair climber with the 50# weight vest on without even breaking a sweat the first round. He's awesome!
I got a kudos at work today by my boss and one of the attorney's. That's always a good thing...
Right now it's kind of stormy outside. Looks like a dust storm may be rolling in.

Niko was all about bugs this week and found a Choose Your Own Adventure, Matthew just grabbed what he saw, and Bethany chose some Magic Tree House books and a few others.
Mike and I got another great work out today. He did the stair climber with the 50# weight vest on without even breaking a sweat the first round. He's awesome!
I got a kudos at work today by my boss and one of the attorney's. That's always a good thing...
Right now it's kind of stormy outside. Looks like a dust storm may be rolling in.

First Weekend of July...
Our weather this weekend-
Saturday 106° / 87°
Sunday 108° / 79°

Pretty fun day today. Everyone slept in! Woo-hoo. After we got going, we threw on our workout cloths and packed up the suits and headed out to the YMCA. On the way at 10:00, I realized we completely spaced the Home Depot workshop that started at 9:00 for the kids this morning. We'll have to catch it next month...Mike and I had a great 2 hour workout today. Very exhilarating and we sweat a ton. Felt great! Got the kiddos out of childcare and we all went swimming for a while. Then headed home, set up the kiddie pool and went swimming some more ;)...Mike's helping a friend lay same tile this afternoon, I don't envy them...And I'm just taking a break from my work here to let you all know what's going on in our world.
Last night, the kids and I went to a movie night at our friend's church. We had a great time watching Chicken Little on the big screen, eating popcorn and seeing our friends...
Today we got Matthew's pre-school letter in the mail confirming he will be in the AM class next year M/W/F- yeay, I was a smidgen worried he'd get the afternoon again. I can't believe he is only one more year away from kindergarten! I have to slow down and enjoy this year with him...
Tomorrow, we have church in the morning. Ironically, none of us will be in the service, though. I'm teaching the pre-school class for the next three weeks and Mike is working...It's all good though. We love our church. It is so cool and full of so many cool people :) So, after church we are just hanging out and enjoy our Sunday.
I'm going to try to start posting a Daily Photo though. We'll see how that goes. I've seen many family blogs that do that. Thought it was a cool idea.
That's about all that's going on in our world this weekend. Not too many adventures per say, but like we say around here, everyday is an adventure.

Where's The Lovin'?
Tonight as I tucked Matthew in to bed, he didn't want the usual hug and kiss. He insisted on a simple, yet firm, hand shake! "Good night, mom"...
Wow. Trying not to take that one personal.
By the way, the fireworks were awesome! We were able to see about 7 shows all around us. Pretty cool stuff...

Our plans...
Mike is off to work today, playing hero to the community :)...So the kids and I are just hanging out here, swimming in the pool, watching the Back to the Future trilogy, and I'm going to squeeze in some worktime too...After dinner, we're driving up the road to watch some fireworks. And that's pretty much it...
We're Attending UC Berkeley...
And many other universities...for free! Mike just found this really cool tool on iTunes. It's called iTunes U. They have several universities and areas of studies to choose from. You are then able to download video and/or audio courses for FREE! Granted you are not getting credit for it, but it's cool nonetheless. I am currently downloading an entire Human Anatomy class from UC Berkeley. It's an audio one so I can then put it on my little iPod Shuffle and listen to it while I work out at the gym. Pretty awesome!
Another course of great interest to us, is the Concordia Seminary that has a Greek and Hebrew class, as well as others...And Bowdoin has a Strength and Conditioning class with many, many video training instructions on it-Awesome stuff...
By the way, you can download iTunes from the Apple website for free and it is Mac OR Windows compatible. Great tool...

Westfork Oak Creek
Yesterday we decided to head out of the heat and up north. We headed north of Sedonia to take a hike along and in Oak Creek. My mom kept Matthew so we had Bethany and Niko. We were definitely NOT the only ones with the idea to get out of the valley heat. Slide Rock was near our destination. The crowds were intimidating. But we went beyond that and arrived at the hiking trail. It was still 95 degrees, but the area was rich with green ferns, giant redwood trees, Oak trees, and many other green ivy, bushes and trees. The Creek was beautiful and clear. We hiked in a bit over three miles and saw spectacular peaks and rock formations. The Creek appeared to have a sandy bottom, but it was actually just sheer rock, not slippery, but solid. The water was deep enough to swim in areas and on the way back we refreshed ourselves and splashed around. All in all, it was a wonderful day. We decided we are all for hiking near and in water. Great solution to the heat....
